Freshman Admissions Criteria:

  1. Ecclesiastical Endorsement
  2. High School diploma with about a 3.3 average (out of 5); 2.6 GPA on U.S. scale
  3. Meet the English test requirement 
    • TOEFL score of 61 on IBT
    • Michigan 75
    • EIKEN 2A with a 63+ on Stage 1 and 27+ on Stage 2 OR EIKEN 2A with BYUH Online EIL 222 and 226 with the grade of B or better in each class (effective Summer 2014).
    • EIKEN (Taken AFTER February 2016The EIKEN Test in Practical English Proficiency, often called STEP EIKEN or the STEP Test, is an English language test conducted by a Japanese public-interest incorporated foundation. BYU-Hawaii requires a total score of 2150 and no subscore lower than 520.
    • BYUH Online EIL 222, 226 & 228 with the grade of B or better in each class.  
      • Please note that all 3 EIL classes cannot be taken in the same semester. 
      • Passing EIL 222 is a pre-requisite to take EIL 228.

   4. Missionary and community service, work experience, and age may also be used as determining factors in admission.

Eiken total score of above 2150, speaking exam above 520.



If you want to use Eiken score taken before February 2016, First exam score has to be above 63, second exam has to be above 27.





BYU-Hawaii Online Classes

BYU-Hawaiiのオンラインクラス EIL222、226、228全てのクラスでB以上の成績を収めれば、英語試験が免除になります。


If you take BYUH online classes (EIL 222, 226, and 228) with the grade of B or better in each class, you do not have to take English exam.

 (It is recommended to take those three classes for two semesters.)
