New Freshmen (NF) are High school/ secondary school/ GED graduates with no university credits or with university credits completed prior to high school graduation. To be considered for admission we encourage the following:

  • Complete an application at www.besmart.com
  • Receive an ecclesiastical endorsement
  • Seminary/Institute recommendation
  • Obtain a cumulative GPA no lower than 3.50
  • Obtain an ACT score no lower than 21 or 25+ to be competitive/ SAT score no lower than 1130
  • Submit a high school transcript
  • The essay portion (Part 7), should reflect a strong desire to attend BYU-Hawaii and indicate the reasons why the applicant has chosen to attend BYU-Hawaii

Transfer Students (TH) are applicants who have attended university since graduated from high school with fewer than 24 semester/36 quarter hours of graded university credits. To be considered for admission we encourage the following:

  • Complete an application at www.besmart.com
  • Receive an ecclesiastical endorsement
  • Institute recommendation
  • Obtain a cumulative GPA no lower than 3.0
  • Obtain an ACT score no lower than 21 / SAT score no lower than 1130
  • Submit an official transcript from each university the applicant has ever attended
  • Submit a high school transcript

Transfer Students (TR) are Applicants who have attended university since graduated from high school with at least 24 semester/36 quarter hours of graded university credits. To be considered for admission we encourage the following:

  • Complete an application at www.besmart.com
  • Receive an ecclesiastical endorsement
  • Obtain a cumulative GPA no lower than 3.50
  • Submit an official transcript from each university the applicant has ever attended

Please be aware that updated transcripts from ALL PREVIOUSLY ATTENDED COLLEGES must be sent along with your application. Not listing all institutions both U.S. and international you have attended/are attending can result in a loss of credit and dismissal. It is your responsibility to make sure an official transcript from each institution, including LDS Institute, is submitted before the application deadline.

Former Students (FS) are applicants with  no additional credits since last attending BYU-Hawaii. To be considered for admission we encourage the following: 

  • Update Part 1 & 2 of the application at www.besmart.com
  • Receive a new ecclesiastical endorsement
  • Be cleared of all holds from Financial Services and Office of Honor

Former Transfers (FT) are applicants with additional credits since last attending BYU-Hawaii. To be considered for admission we encourage the following:

  • Update Part 1 & 2 of the application at www.besmart.com
  • Receive a new ecclesiastical endorsement
  • Submit an official transcript from each university the applicant has ever attended
  • Be cleared of all holds from Financial Services and Office of Honor

Domestic applicants are defined as applicants who have permanent residency in the United States. Their applications will be evaluated according to the academic standards of the U.S.

Domestic applicants who have completed their high school education outside the U.S. should notify the Admission Office when they submit their applications. There may be some adjustments on their applications according to their educational backgrounds.

Domestic Applicants

Online Enrollment (OE) is for applicants who have taken or are taking BYU-Hawaii Online classes. To be considered for admission we encourage the following:

  • Receive an ecclesiastical endorsement
  • Obtain a cumulative GPA no lower than 3.50
  • Obtain an ACT score no lower than 21 / SAT score no lower than 1130
  • Submit a high school transcript 
  • Submit an official transcript from each university the applicant has ever attended
